Meeting Announcement for Police Service Officers, Police Code Compliance Officers and Police Investigative Aides

Meeting Announcement for Police Service Officers, Police Code Compliance Officers and Police Investigative Aides

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8TH, 10:00 a.m. – NOON

MEA OFFICE, 9620 Chesapeake Drive, Suite 203.

As you know, MEA mobilized immediately upon receiving the mayor’s budget proposal to eliminate your jobs by scheduling a meeting with you, MEA leaders and staff to prepare for the City Council public hearings. We met on Monday, November 30th which resulted in an informative and strong message by MEA General Manager, Michael Zucchet and all of the Police Department employees who spoke at City Council on Wednesday, December 2.

If the City Council was unclear of what services you provide to the citizens of San Diego and what revenues you generate, they certainly have a clearer picture after hearing your testimonies. You demonstrated the necessity of your job and the far-reaching impacts to the daily operations of both the Police Department and the City of San Diego if your positions were eliminated. Everyone did a great job and it is now time to prepare and strategize for the next City Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. They will be hearing additional public testimony, so you will have another opportunity to provide new information and more fine-tuned cost savings and cost recovery alternatives to the mayor’s proposal in order to attempt to persuade City Council members to restore your positions.

Come to the MEA office on Tuesday, December 8 at 10 am and we will have information to share with you regarding the first meet and confer meeting that was held with the City and the Police Department on December 3rd, and other important updates.

Please call Gwen Phillips at 619-264-6632 if you have any questions.
