General Manager Mike Zucchet joins State and City leaders to support sick leave for hourly employees

On Friday, April 17th, MEA General Manager Mike Zucchet joined City Councilmembers Todd Gloria and Marti Emerald, along with State Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez to announce the progress of a bill passed by the California State Legislature known as A.B. 1522, which allows all California workers to earn up to three sick days per year.  In the City of San Diego, this legislation will directly affect hourly workers represented by MEA, providing the opportunity to take up to three days off a year—with pay—in the event of an illness with the employee or their immediate family.  It is expected that the City Council will consider the approval of earned sick leave for hourly City employees in the coming weeks.  MEA will keep you updated on the continued progress and how it will benefit you.
