GOOD NEWS – MEA Has Secured An Additional 24% Special Salary Increase for Refuse Collection Supervisors!

As a result of MEA’s existing two-year labor contract negotiated with the City last year, all MEA-represented employees are already scheduled to receive a 5% general salary increase on July 1, 2022.

Our current contract also allows for a limited “reopener” to negotiate additional Special Salary Adjustments (SSAs) to become effective in the coming Fiscal Year, and earlier this week MEA reached an agreement with the City for a new 24% SSA for Refuse Collection Supervisors!

Accordingly, Refuse Collection Supervisors (Area Refuse Collection Supervisor and District Refuse Collection Supervisor) will receive the following pay raises over the next 15 months:

These pay increases compound upon one another, which means that by the beginning of the next fiscal year your pay will be 31.7% higher than your pay today.

These pay increases are the product of a multi-year advocacy campaign for more competitive pay and benefits for MEA-represented employees. MEA’s entire leadership team, its staff and legal counsel have all been single-minded in their focus to get general and special salary increases like these implemented by the City.

MEA also wishes to recognize and appreciate the leadership of Mayor Todd Gloria and the City Council for their support of these well-deserved pay increases.
