MEA Members Vote to Overwhelmingly Support Labor Contract: One-Year MOU is Ratified and Will Take Effect on July 1
Thank you to all of the MEA members who took the time to vote on the one-year tentative agreement reached by MEA’s Negotiating Team. We had a great turnout, especially for an online vote, and the contract was overwhelmingly ratified with a vote of 1,513 in favor and 54 opposed. That amounts to a 96.5% YES vote to support the recommendation of MEA’s Negotiating Team. We very much appreciate everybody’s active participation in this critical vote.
The next steps in the process will be the City Council voting to adopt three resolutions approving the contract, the FY21 Salary Ordinance and the FY21 Flex Benefits plan. Each of these approvals will take place at an upcoming City Council meeting.
The contact will then go into effect on July 1, 2020. You will also see the increased Flex allotments when you receive open enrollment materials in June, and those increases will be in effect for the upcoming plan year. Finally, MEA will continue to be engaged in the City Council’s budget deliberations and approval of the FY21 City budget in the coming weeks. Especially now that the important protections and increases included in this contract have been secured, we will focus our fight to prevent cuts to MEA-represented positions through the budget process.
For more information on the specific terms of this new one-year MOU, please check the “latest news” section of MEA’s website at www.sdmea.org. If you have additional questions, don’t hesitate to contact your MEA representative at 619-264-6632.
Thank you again for your participation and support. Stay healthy and stay strong.
