More Information Regarding Retiree Health Tentative Agreement

For those of you looking for more detailed information on the Tentative Agreement between MEA and the City regarding Retiree Health Benefits, attached please find the final signed copy of the 26-page Agreement.

The E-blast that went out last week was meant to summarize this Agreement, as well as to provide some legal and factual context for the deal.  We have heard from some of you that the summary was difficult to follow or confusing on some key points.  The hard part is that this deal is in fact a very complicated, multi-faceted agreement and there is no “short version” to give.  But we will continue to provide information in various formats so that everybody can be comfortable that they fully understand this Agreement before they are asked to vote to ratify it.

To that end, later this week we will be sending out additional information and video clips summarizing this Tentative Agreement, as well as addressing the specific Retiree Health subjects that we are getting the most questions about.  The MEA member ratification vote for this Tentative Agreement will take place on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at various locations around the City.  We will be providing the details of those times and places in the coming days.

In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to call MEA and speak to your representative to ask specific questions or to get more information.
